Search Intent: How to Match Content to a Query
Search intent is the likely goal behind a query. Understanding it helps you choose the right page type and prevents content from answering a different question than the searcher asked.
Informational intent
The user wants to learn, understand, solve, or compare. Guides, tutorials, definitions, and explainers often fit this intent.
Commercial investigation
The user is researching options before a decision. Comparisons, reviews, alternatives, and feature explainers can fit when they are genuinely useful.
Transactional intent
The user is closer to taking an action such as buying, signing up, or downloading. Pages should make the next action clear and provide the information needed to make it.
How to use intent in keyword research
Look at the wording of the query, the modifiers it uses, and the type of information a useful answer would require. Build the page around that need instead of assigning an intent label mechanically.
